A young, blood-red dragon crouched at the edge of the pool, tail flicking as he stared into the water, looking for all the world like a large, scaly feline. His golden eyes watched, following a slow-moving creature. Suddenly, he struck.
"Gotcha!" he yelled, pouncing on the creature. Of course in doing so, he landed with a huge splash and sent a gigantic wave crashing over an unfortunate mountain cat, who screamed her anger and ran away into a nearby group of trees. Spark didn't notice, too busy with the immense, flailing fish in his claws. He wrestled with it, splashing about in the water and eventually throwing himself onto the shore; where the fish thrashed helplessly before he hit it over the head with a rock, effectively stunning it.
"Toldja I'd got you," the dragon murmured patiently, laying the fish in the (rather pitiful) pile beside a rock. He felt a little guilty for taking more fish than he needed for himself, but the group he was staying with was small and running low on food.
By some undetectable signal, Spark lifted his head and turned it to look at the setting sun. It would be dark soon, and his temporary family would wonder about him. But he only had enough food for this one night, unless you counted several uprooted berry bushes...
A pair of sapphire eyes watched curiously, but cautiously from a distant cliff, hidden in a tangle of thorny bushes. Spark, deep in thought, didn't sense their gaze upon him.
"I need help," he muttered, looking away from the sunset with a soft sigh. A cool breeze ruffled the soft fur along his spine, and he closed his eyes, wondering what to do.
