Name: Coal
Age: 5 years
Gender: female
Rank: young adult
Species: dragon of ice
If human and if applicable, trade: N/A
Description: Coal is black with a dark red glow coming from her main black color. It really is rather strange for if you look at her quick she is quite black, but if you look closer there is that dark red color tinting the sides of her knobby scales. Her scales are smooth but are much like pebbles. It looks as if someone took her and glued smooth small smooth stones all over her body. Her claws are black and her eyes are the same dark red of her undercolor. On her belly and chest she has smoother scales that are larger than the rest of her body scales. They are dark red also. Her head also bears two black horns, very thick and strong.
Her tail is long and thick, and she is barely able to lift it. She is a very short, very stockily built dragon. Her legs are short and stubby, as if her neck, but every inch of her is hardened muscle that she has earned from hard work. She has five toes on her front feet and four on her back, each one thick and strong. Her head is thick and has smoother scales on it like her belly and chest and her teeth are such a dark red that they are almost black. Her wings are as the rest of her is, a little on the smaller size, though fairly proportionate to the rest of her body. Her thick body makes her not quite as aerodynamic and she can be pretty clumsy on the ground. She is not in the least a fast runner either. She usually uses her muscles to win a battle, not her quickness, for she would surely lose if she relied on that.
Personality: Coal is a serious minded girl most of the time, though mainly because she feels that she has to be. Being a Dark dragon isn’t easy on the young and so she has, as you might say, grown up to quickly. She hadn’t taken part in much play as a youngster, training vigorously instead, but there is a part of her deep inside that the chill wind of the Dark Light Mountains hasn’t yet frozen. She would like to be playful as she was when she was a hatchling, but she isn’t sure if she’ll ever get that chance. Around those of her group she is known for her seriousness and being withdrawn.
When she is on her own however she is full of longing for others to like her as she is, and not to wanting her to be so grownup all of the time. She often sits watching the sunset, wishing that she was someone else, either in a different group, or a different dragon, one you liked to be serious, or a different creature altogether, a creature that didn’t have to be serious. She has few friends, not being one to mingle easily with others for she was never taught to make friends. Beneath her shell that she has been hiding under for a while now, she is a warm and friendly creature, full of life and longing to be loved. She is on the shy side, and even if she had been taught to make friends she probably would still be on the shy side, it is just her nature
History: Coal’s parents were both born and raised Ice Dragons and Coal was hatched out of a clutch of four eggs. Only one of the other eggs hatched though and that dragon was her brother Gale. He was Coal’s opposite in every way. He was large but quick, and more than that, he enjoyed being serious. Coal admired him but as they grew a coolness sprouted up between them, for they had very different views on the world. Coal thought that they should get along with the other animals, Gale thought that they needed to destroy every living animal so that they could be supreme rulers of the land. They spent less and less time with each other until they finally no longer did spend any more time together.
Coal, by that time, was 3 years old, still very young for a dragon but very determined in her thinking, though she seldom confided in anyone what she thought about a certain thing. She would just blend in, not saying anything contrary to the other dragons. It is true she tried to once, but she ended up getting hurt. She had quickly learned to hide what she thought about things.
At four years, her mother was killed in a fight, not between the other dragons, but in their own group. There was a dispute about whose nest was whose and though Coal’s mother was right about it there was a fight. The leader didn’t intervene and Coal’s mother was mortally wounded. She died not long after the fight.
